Released on Blue Note in 1999, 'Traveling Miles' was an homage to Miles Davis. In addition to tracks from the Miles Davis repertoire, for which Wilson wrote her own lyrics, the double album also features three originals by the singer. Wilson's regular backing musicians were joined for these recordings by illustrious star guests such as cornetist Olu Dara, guitarist Pat Metheny, alto saxophonist Steve Coleman, bassist Dave Holland, violinist Regina Carter, vibraphonist Stefon Harris and the African singer Angélique Kidjo.
