Robert Glasper Experiment Black Radio
Robert Glasper turned the jazz scene upside down in 2012 with the first "Black Radio" album. Before that, the pianist and his trio had released two critically acclaimed acoustic albums on the Blue Note label: "Canvas" and "In My Element". On these albums, he showed his qualities as an improvisational jazz musician, but by adding a few guests, he also hinted at the stylistic realms in which his journey would take him in the future. On the double album "Double-Booked" in 2009 he began the transition from the acoustic Robert Glasper Trio to the electrified band The Robert Glasper Experiment and from almost flawless jazz to cross-genre contemporary black music. With The Robert Glasper Experiment, consisting of Casey Benjamin (saxophone/vocoder), Derrick Hodge (bass) and Chris Dave (drums), and guests such as Erykah Badu, Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, Lupe Fiasco, Ledisi, KING, Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild, Meshell Ndegeocello, Stokley and Yasiin Bey (a. k.a. Mos Def), Glasper transcended entrenched genre boundaries to draw inspiration from all areas of modern black music and beyond.
