Diana Krall's "Turn Up The Quiet" is a masterpiece of eloquent silence. When 2004 leaked out that Diana Krall was working in the studio again for the first time in eight long years with Tommy LiPuma, the producer of many of her greatest success albums, curiosity and anticipation were high. With "Turn Up The Quiet" the Canadian returned - after various acclaimed excursions into the realm of sensual Bossa Nova ("Quiet Night"), the slightly frivolous Vaudeville music of the early 20th century ("Glad Rag Doll") and the stylish pop music ("Wallflower") - to her musical roots: to the jazz classics and immortal songs from the "American Songbook". Naturally interpreted in the sensually crackling way that only Diana Krall succeeds in.

After just a few tunes of "Turn Up The Quiet," you can feel the joy with which the artist went about these recordings. "I thought about these songs for a long time," Krall says. "Being in the company of some of my best musical friends allowed me to tell these stories the way I had in mind". No one had any idea, however, that this would be her last collaboration with Tommy LiPuma - he died unexpectedly on March 13, 2017, just weeks after the album was completed. Krall can be heard in three tracks with bassist Christian McBride and guitarist Russell Malone, the two had already accompanied the Canadian on the first three albums. The majority of the remaining musicians are also already known from the earlier recordings "Christmas Songs", "Live In Paris" and "Glad Rag Doll".
