"A tremendously modern hard bop session", was Billboard's verdict when this live album by Art Blakey's quintet was released in 1956. After the recordings were initially released on three 10-inch albums in 1954, they were reissued two years later on two albums in 12-inch format due to the great demand from fans and Clifford Brown's death. With Clifford Brown, Lou Donaldson, Horace Silver and Curley Russell, Blakey interprets two Charlie Parker classics ("Now's The Time" and "Confirmation"), J.J. Johnson's "Wee Dot" and the ballad "If I Had You".
