Before they stormed the international charts as crossover sensation The Crusaders, Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper & Co. played acoustic jazz with clear influences from Cannonball Adderley, Art Blakey and John Coltrane. Even on their debut album “Freedom Sound”, recorded in 1961, the band managed to strike a balance between hard bop and catchy soul-jazz.
BLUE NOTE TONE POET EDITION: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analogue master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a single sleeve with deluxe tip-on jacket.
